Earlier this week I recieved this message from one of our readers and I wanted to pass it on to all of you:

"I just picked 2 gallons of beautiful blueberries today at the U Pick on Moon Rd. (just off Florence Rd.) in Powder Springs for ONLY $5/gallon!! It's a kid-friendly place owned by the Cook family that lives across the street from the field for the last 30 years. With the recent rain, the berries are huge and juicy and plentiful. Mr. Cook says that he thinks they'll keep producing for about 2 - 3 more weeks, he opened July 5. It's best to go early in the morning before it gets too hot and use bug spray. He provides the buckets for picking and bags to take them home. When you get your berries home, spread them out and allow them to ripen a day for the best flavor and then store them unrinsed in the fridge. They freeze well too, I rinse them and pat dry and put them in ziploc freezer bags. The frozen berries are great in smoothies and to make pies, cobblers, and dump cake!"

My husband and daughter went to check it out yesterday morning and they had so much fun!  They came back with a gallon of blueberries that are absolutely delicious.  It's amazing that they are only $5 a gallon because $5 at the grocery store barely buys a pint.  He said that you should definitley go early in the morning because it got hot fast, but it's worth it to have all those sweet, yummy blueberries!
