"One-Stop Shop" for Job Seekers at Cobb Libraries

The ‘CobbWorks Mobile Career Center,’ a free job resource, will be available March and April at selected Cobb County Library branches in a partnership to make job-hunting tools accessible to community members.

The portable facility is a converted bus filled, not with seats, but with 12 computer stations instead. One can complete an online job search, résumé and a cover letter at the station. The computers also have Internet access via satellite, which allows the opportunity for people to conduct searches for local, state and national jobs.

“The ‘CobbWorks Mobile Career Center’ is an effective way to take workforce development services into neighborhoods where our community members live and work,” CobbWorks Executive Director and CEO, John Helton said.

Professional job counselors from CobbWorks will also be available to assist job-seekers, Helton said. CobbWorks staff can help individuals plan job searches, apply for jobs on-line, create resumes and cover letters and answer career-development questions.

Visitors to the mobile career center can continue their work inside libraries where they can access newspaper classifieds, sign up to use computers in the library, and check out the latest books on job hunting and career management. Services are free at the library and printing is available from computers and copying machines for 10 cents per page.

The career center will be available at the following libraries:

South Cobb in Mableton:                   March 3     9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Central in Marietta:                            March 4     2 – 4 p.m.

Merchant’s Walkin Marietta:               March 17   2 – 4 p.m.

Merchant’s Walk in Marietta:              March 19   2 – 4 p.m.

Stratton in Marietta:                           April 7        9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Before attending the event, participants should keep a few items in mind. Attendees should bring a thumb drive to save their work and a notebook to take notes. Computer usage at the mobile career center is unlimited for the duration of the visit unless there is a line to use the computers.  In that case, customers are limited to one-hour sessions. The bus is wheelchair-accessible.

Services at the CobbWorks Mobile Career Center are provided on a first-come-first-serve basis. Once individuals register in the CobbWorks Web page, a step that can be completed on site, then their search can begin.
