Well, she's my baby sister, so I have to brag about her a little bit! The Miss Georgia pageant began in Columbus last night and will be going on through Saturday. Casy is representing Georgia State University and, of course, whoever is crowned Miss Georgia will go on to the Miss America pageant so it is very exciting!
Casy has been through so much in the last month since my parent's house burned and all of her clothes and dresses for the pageant were destroyed. However, so many people have been so kind and have stepped up to help her out. Lasting Impressions dress shop in Columbus, Georgia gave her a beautiful evening gown as well as a costume for her dance routine. Georgia State University and the pageant board and many others have been very generous as well in helping her to get prepared for this weekend.
Casy is such a beautiful, sweet girl and I am so proud of her. I just know she is going to do great!
Good luck, Casy, we're rooting for you!!!

In an article in Forbes magazine dated June 9th, the title was that "US Pending Home Sales Move Higher in April." That's GREAT NEWS and proof that you will find what you are looking for. If you look for the bad reports you will find them. If you look for the good you will find them!

FACT: Home sales are only 13% below what they were a year ago. With the % number of agents and mortgage originators that have left the business there are is a higher grade of professional available to the consumer!
FACT: The NAR (National Association of Realtors) adjusted index of pending sales increased to 88.2 from a March reading of 83.0. To give you a comparison, the April of 2007 index was at 101.5. Not quite the bust the media is reporting, down but not out.
FACT: Rates are low NOW. Now is a great time to buy, the rates are good and the supply of great deals is at it's highest. Don't miss your chance for a great deal and great interest rates before the rates go higher as the fed has already annouced that they will do. Rent your home out to buy. There are lot of renters out there that will be glad to do a lease/purchase or a long term rental so that you can buy another home. It's easier than you think with the right Realtor and Mortgage Professional on your side to guide you and provide your renters with a plan to purchase.

If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, 'Who's on First?' might have turned out something like this:
COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: Thanks. I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer.
ABBOTT: Mac?
COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou.
ABBOTT: Your computer?
COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one.
ABBOTT : Mac?
COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou.
ABBOTT: What about Windows?
COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here?
ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows?
COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows?
ABBOTT: Wallpaper.
COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software.
ABBOTT: Software for Windows?
COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything?
ABBOTT: I just did.
COSTELLO: You just did what?
ABBOTT: Recommend something.
COSTELLO: You recommended something?
ABBOTT: Yes.
COSTELLO: For my office?
ABBOTT: Yes
COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office?
ABBOTT: Office.
COSTELLO: Yes, for my office!
ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Window's.
COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need?
ABBOTT: Word.
COSTELLO: What word?
ABBOTT: Word in Office.
COSTELLO: The only word in office is office.
ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows.
COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows?
ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue 'W'.
COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue 'w' if you don't start with some straight answers. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: That's right What do you have?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: I need money to track my money?
ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer.
COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer?
ABBOTT: Money.
COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer?
ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge.
COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much?
ABBOTT: One copy.
COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money?
ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money.
COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money?
ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT!
(A few days later)
ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you?
COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off?
ABBOTT: Click on 'START'

A local high school has a fantastic new indoor batting facility thanks to the MRP Design group in Marietta. They recently completed volunteer work on a 5000 square foot indoor batting facility for North Cobb High School in Acworth Georgia. The facility provides offices for coaches, a large locker room for the varsity players, two full length hitting tunnels and a full length pitching area.
Jonathan Edwards, Jess McCullough, Bob Bear, and Tom Weiner are engineers for MRP, and they provided services free of charge to assist with this local community project. The facility is already paying off as the North Cobb varsity team made the semi-finals of the Georgia AAAAA State tournament for the first time since 1966! Way to go NCHS Baseball players!
The MRP Design Group has supported the North Cobb High School baseball team for over seven years with the President of MRP Design Group, Ken Dalton, being an officer of the Booster Club for three years. The first picture below is of Ken throwing the first pitch for North Cobb High in the quarter final of the state tournament game.

The Reply?
Dear Son,
I kNOw that astroNOmy, ecoNOmics, and oceaNOgraphy are eNOugh to keep even an hoNOr student busy. Do NOt forget that the pursuit of kNOwledge is a NOble task, and you can never study eNOugh.
Dad
This next joke is something my own Dad sent me a few months ago. It's pretty funny because when I was in college I had VERY different political philosphies than I do now. Dad always told me that I would change my mind once I had to start paying taxes.....and he was right! :)
The Father-Daughter Talk
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of "the redistribution of wealth."
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt
that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her pr ofessors had to be
the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which
left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that Would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican party."

A couple of months ago, Paula and Andy Bell (the owners of Benny's Bear Factory in West Cobb) did something very special for us. They opened the store early one Saturday so that my youngest daughter and her pre-school class could come and make bears. My daughter has autism and sometimes being in new environments or stores is very difficult for her. Even though she initially had a hard time with the process, especially the "stuffing machine" which most children love, she finally got the hang of it and really enjoyed herself. She loves the dog she made and named it, fittingly, "Pink Poodle Puppy" and she sleeps with it every night. The dog sings "You Are My Sunshine" and she loves to sing along.
During the first week of summer break, I took her back to pick out this adorable outfit for Pink Poodle Puppy. She had so much fun! Later that night she was petting the puppy and saying "You're such a good boy." When I said, "I think Pink Poodle Puppy is a girl. She has a skirt and pink bows on her ears," my daughter replied "NO! Pink Poodle Puppy is a BOY!" Oh well, I guess Pink Poodle Puppy can be whatever he/she wants to be!
On Wednesday we went back to Benny's Bear Factory to get a new doll. She picked this small brown dog and stuffed it and we filled out the birth certificate. His name?....."Puppy." She doesn't stray too far from the facts in the naming process! Oh, and this one is a boy too....in case you were wondering!
If your kids are bored and you're looking for some indoor fun on a hot day this summer, go to Benny's Bear Factory. They have all kinds of animals and dolls in different sizes to choose from. You can pick out the eyes and a sound box for each of the animals and they have so many adorable outfits to choose from. Your kids will love it!

I was so surprised last week when I turned onto Dallas Highway from Lost Mountain Road and saw two huge new orange signs for Lost Mountain Shops and Lost Mountain Offices.
I usually try not to be too negative in my posts but I have to say that I really do not like these signs! I have always been so proud of the Old Lost Mountain store and the way the newer developers in that area have kept the buildings and signage very traditional in brick and/or stucco to complement the historic landmark. But the two new signs just sort of slap you in the face with the bright orange color, the
"plastic" look, and the big white block lettering. I know that the McDonald's and Chevron don't really "fit in" with the look of the rest of the developments either, but that is an older building. With the lengths that the developers went to to make the offices, shops and even the new storage unit building look attractive I expected more from the signage.
What are your thoughts? Is there anything that the local public can do to try to get the developers to change the signs so that they fit in better with the rest of the area?

These are the new shops and storage facility at Lost Mountain. They are very much in keeping with the "look" of the rest of the buildings in the area.

So you've decided you want natural stone countertops. You've made a great decision. Natural stone is durable, sanitary, and adds value to your home. Did you know A study performed by the Hospitality Institute of Technology and Management ranks Granite as the easiest countertop surface to keep clean retaining the least amount of bacteria with normal washing.
Granite tops are extremely durable. You don't have to rush to find pot holders anymore. Just take that hot pot right off the stove and onto the countertop. Knives and granite...they won't hurt the granite but the knives will not last long.
The basic process....
2. Once you have decided on a few possible stones, fax a rough drawing of your countertops to Barmar for a free estimate. Our fax number is 404.768.3822 ( click here to print Barmar's free estimate sheet ) With the drawing in hand, we can provide you with an estimate and the number of slabs you will need to complete the project.
3. With this information you can take a trip to the warehouse and view the stones in person. Remember, these are natural stone products. Each stone has different charateristics, shadings, and colorings. Once you have selected a stone you will place the stone on hold telling the stone warehouse that it will be shipped to Barmar.
4. We will schedule a time to template you countertops. Once the template is made and returned to the shop we will begin fabrication of your custom granite countertops.
5. We schedule an installation date. We can remove you existing countertops and install your new custom granite countertops on the same day. (Don't forget to schedule a plumber to reconnect your sink)

Fourteen year old Elliot Savary of Powder Springs was killed in his bed yesterday when a drunk driver drove a pick-up truck into his home. His sister, thirteen year old Leah, lived but suffered leg injuries. The driver, Jeanette L. Eason of Paulding county, was arrested and faces 8 charges including DUI and First Degree Vehicular Homicide.
Apparently, neighbors found her still sitting in the truck after the incident smoking a cigarette. Eason remains in the Cobb County Jail with a bond of $100,000 after being raised from the original $35,000 because of an outcry from the victims' family.
This is just a heartbreaking situation all around. I am so sad for this poor boy and his family and what they must be going through. Let's all keep them in our thoughts and prayers.
Read more about the story and the arrest at 11Alive.

Someone sent me this to me recently and it was so cute I just had to share it! (I figured it's okay to pick on the Dad's a little bit since Father's Day is a whole week away!)
I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. "Why?" my daughter asked. "Because it's been
on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty, and probably has germs,"' I replied.
At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, "Momma, how do you know all this stuff, you are so smart." I was thinking quickly and said "All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mom Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mom."
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information. "OH...I get it!" she beamed, "So if you don't pass the test you have to be the dad!"
''Exactly" I replied back with a big smile on my face.

There was a question posted recently on the Message Boards regarding a homeschool curriculum from K12 called Georgia Virtual Academy. Basically, it's a homeschool curriculum that is payed for by tax dollars and it costs nothing more for the families that use it.
I had never heard of this program before, but it sounds like a great alternative to traditional schooling for those that prefer to homeschool. You can find out more about it at www.k12.com/ga/ . The poster wanted to hear from people that have used the program or know about it. The deadline for next year is June 16th. So if you have any advice about the K12 program and would like to pass it along, click here to reply. (You wil need to register for the Message Boards if you haven't already to post a reply.)

I have to admit that in the past I have not been a huge fan of The Melting Pot restaurants. It's not that I don't like fondue....as a matter of fact what can be better than melted hot cheese and bread? It's just that if I'm paying that much for food at a nice restaurant, I generally like for someone else to cook it!
However, last night I went with a few friends to The Melting Pot at Town Center in Kennesaw for their "Ladies Night Out" special which they have the first Monday of every month. For $20 you get your choice of cheese fondue, a salad, and chocolate fondue. It was really very good and a fun experience as well. It was nice to just sit around with friends and casually dip the fondue and catch up on each others' lives.
So, if you're looking for a place to have your next "Girls Night Out" with friends, keep it in mind. It's a pretty good deal and a lot of fun!

I recently read a wonderful novel by Sara Rose called My Blue Violets. It is a Christian based fictional novel that is set in our very own city of Marietta. The story is about two neighboring families who live in modern day Marietta. Lorna Peterson and Ned Osgood grew up together and were college sweethearts, but Lorna was heartbroken when Ned left Marietta (and her) behind for a life of pursuing wealth and building a business in Los Angeles.
In time, Lorna builds her own successful decorating business in Marietta and begins dating a Godly man, Gavin. But when Ned's beloved mother passes away, Ned returns to Marietta and purchases a beloved historic mansion. After all the years of separation, Lorna finds herself confused about her feelings for Ned. Will he stay in Marietta? Has he changed? Does he live a God-centered life? Does Ned still have feelings for Lorna and are they meant to be together? Or, will Gavin be the answer to her prayers?
My Blue Violets is Sara Rose's first novel and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The characters are very well developed and I not only felt like I "knew" Lorna, Ned, and their families.....I cared about them as well. A historic Marietta home is a central "character" that brings Lorna and Ned into a business relationship. From the descriptions of the Greek Revival home, one would think that it was an actual historic Marietta home. Sara Rose also did a wonderful job in describing events and scenery in Marietta from the Fourth of July fireworks on the square, to antique shopping, to the North Georgia Fair at Jim Miller Park. She vividly details the rich history and charm of our beautiful city as the backdrop for this romance.
Sara Rose grew up reading the faith based books of Grace Livingston Hill, and the novels of Jane Austen. They are her two favorite authors and have been a great influence in her writing. She has adopted Georgia as her home and has lived here for the past 21 years, the last 15 years she has resided in Marietta. Sara says her purpose in writing Christian Fiction is to tell a story, which she hopes her readers will find entertaining as well as receive a message from the Gospel.
My Blue Violets is also available as an audio book and can be purchased at Barnes & Noble, Borders, Sweet Spirit, A Cup of the Word, and Amazon.
