Kennesaw Mountain

My husband and I took advantage of the gorgeous fall weather and lower temperatures yesterday and went for a short hike up Kennesaw Mountain.  It has been too long since I've done that and I was reminded of how very fortunate we are to have such a treasure nearby.  The view from the top of the mountain yesterday was absolutely gorgeous.

I love the history of the mountain too, and seeing the earthen mounds that sheltered soldiers during the Civil War, still visible today.  It is fascinating to stand up there and picture what Marietta and Atlanta must have looked like from the mountain all those years ago.

Vince Dooley to speak at luncheon Monday

I just found out about this luncheon and wanted to pass the information on to all of the UGA  fans out there...
The Cobb Library Foundation will host former University of Georgia head football coach Vince Dooley for a “Meet the Author” luncheon 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at The Georgian Club. Dooley, who also served as the UGA director of athletics, wrote "Dooley's Dawgs". Tickets to the event are $30 and can be purchased online at www.cobbcat.org.

Proceeds from the luncheon are designated to fund the Gail Rogers Honorary Scholarship awarded each year for a deserving Masters of Library Science student employed by the Cobb County Public Library System. The Georgian Club is located at 100 Galleria Parkway, Suite 170, Atlanta.

The Breast Cancer Site: You Can Help

I received this email from a reader this morning and I wanted to pass it along to all of you.  I just clicked the link and helped raise support, it's easy to do and takes very little time.

Hello Amy,

I have a favor to ask of you, if you can do it.  Below is a web site for Breast Cancer.  They are trying to reach a goal for the month of September.  The month is more than half over and they have barely reached 40%.  It is a free donation web site.  I was wondering if you could forward this to your readers and encourage them to forward it to their friends to try and make this goal possible.  I have lost several dear friends to this and some are still fighting it.  I know you have many readers that also know someone.

PS  I do this every day.  There is a place that you can click and get a daily reminder to do it EVERYDAY.

Book Signing - Life's Chosen Angel

We are pleased to annouce that Life's Chosen Angel by local author Rev Paul Kumar has arrived!  We will be hosting Paul for a book signing on Saturday September 27 from 1pm - 3pm.  Please come join us and meet Paul and Minnie.
This book tells of the love for a son, brother, husband, father, and friend, who was taken from this temporal world too soon for us to fully grasp.  We do not understand God's timing and we do not always see how God works everything together for good.  But by faith, we accept and can always give a reason for the hope that is within us.  That hope is in our savior and our sovereign, Jesus Christ.
To read more about Paul and his lovely wife of 40 years, Minnie, please read Amy's article at http://www.westcobblife.com/reverend-paul-kumar-and-his-loving-wife-minnie.html

Georgia Superintendent Kathy Cox Wins $1 Million

Congratulations are in order for Georgia School Superintendent Kathy Cox who won $1 Million on "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" last night!

Ms. Cox initially took some criticism for appearing on the show, especially in light of the recent news of Clayton County Accreditation troubles.  I personally think people were a little worried that if she didn't do well it would look bad for Georgia.

But Ms. Cox, a former school teacher, made Georgia proud!  She became the first person to ever win the $1 Million dollar prize on the show.  And now she is donating the money to Georgia schools.  Now there's someone who cares about Georgia's kids.  Way to go, Kathy Cox!

I Finally Got "Hip" and joined the Social Networking World

It just goes to show that you're never too old to learn new tricks!  I have kept out of the social networking arena for so long for the simple reason that it baffled me.  However, recently a college friend told me that many of our old pals were on Facebook.  So I decided to jump into the fire and give it a try.

I just joined yesterday and I've already reconnected with so many friends from high school, college, and elsewhere.  I've thought about many of my old friends often over the years, not knowing how to get in touch with them.  Facebook is great because it gives an informal opportunity to "catch up" with people, say "hi", and see what they're up to.  I also like that people cannot see your profile unless you allow them to be your "friend."

So give it a try if you haven't already.  It's a lot of fun, even for un-"hip" people like me!
